US President Trump & Wife Melania Retrace Gandhi's Footsteps at 'Sabarmati Ashram'

Ahmedabad, February 24, 2020:

US President Donald Trump, along with First Lady Melania Trump has arrived in India for the much-awaited two-day visit, also dubbed as “Namaste Trump” and right after their grand welcome by his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, the VVIPs visited the Sabarmati Ashram.

Advisors to the President and daughter and son-in-law Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner also accompanied Donald Trump in the trip to relive Gandhi’s life at the Ashram.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen briefing the Trump family about Sabarmati Ashram and the famous “Charkha” (spinning wheel).

It may be mentioned here that the US President is on his first official visit to India. Trump and Modi will be discussing a slew of issues such as defence and strategic ties. The controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA is also expected to come up during the discussions.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that five pacts involving cooperation in areas of intellectual property rights, trade facilitation and homeland security are expected to be finalized during Trump’s 36-hour long visit.

According to reports, a major highlight will be the probable signing of a deal to procure 24 MH-60 Romeo helicopters by India from the US at a cost of $2.6 billion. The acquisition of six AH-64E Apache helicopters for $800 million is also on the cards.
