Uttar Pradesh Police to Deport 'Bangladeshis' and Other Foreigners

Lucknow, October 1, 2019:

The Police of Uttar Pradesh has been directed to detect and deport 'Bangladeshis' and other foreigners, in what is being seen as the Hindi-belt state's version of the NRC.

The Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police has given this director in a letter to all district police chiefs and stated that it is important for the internal security.

The police will now search for transport hubs and slum clusters and check whether the residents have all the documents.

Furthermore, the fingerprints of the people detected as 'foreigners' will be taken by the authorities.

The deportation will be "time-bound and monitored by senior officials," the top officer has said in his directives. In the revised citizen's list in BJP-ruled Assam, the NRC or National Register of Citizens has left out 19 lakh people.

It may be mentioned here that UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, had earlier praised the Assam NRC and calling it a matter of "national security", added that he would implement a similar procedure in his state if the need arose.
