Vice Admiral Karambir Singh appointed next Navy Chief

Guwahati, March 23, 2019:

According to the Defence Ministry officials, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh has been appointed the next Indian Navy Chief.

Karambir Singh is the first helicopter pilot to occupy the office and will succeed Admiral Sunil Lamba who will be retiring on May 31st.

Singh belongs to Jalandhar in Punjab, and is an alumnus of National Defence Academy; Pune; Defence services staff college, Wellington and college of Naval Warfare, Mumbai.

At present, he is serving as the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

VAdm Karambir Singh has extensive experience in flying Chetaks and Kamovs and he has also commanded four ships at various stages of his career — ICG Chandbibi (Patrol craft of Indian Coast Guard), INS Vijaydurg (Missile ship), INS Rana (Destroyer) and INS Delhi (Destroyer). VAdm Karambir Singh during his career spanning 37 years has also been awarded the PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal) 2018 and AVSM (Ati Vishisht Seva Medal) for his service to the nation.
