West Bengal: Two Injured as Burdwan Railway Station Collapses

Kolkata, January 5, 2020:

A large portion of the main building of the Burdwan railway station, which was under construction, has collapsed, leaving two people gravely injured.

The incident took place at around 8.10 pm on Saturday and according to railway personnel, the incident occurred as beautification process was underway. The two were rushed to the nearest hospital, i.e. Burdwan Medical College.

A portion of the main entrance has also collapsed. Chief Public Relations Officer, Eastern Railway, Nikhil Chakraborty said that they have prioritized rescue operations and ensure that there are no persons trapped inside.

Senior officers informed that preliminary reports said that there was none buried under the debris and that the operations are going on.

It may be mentioned here that the Burdwan or Barddhaman railway station is located about 95 km from Kolkata on the busy Howrah-New Delhi line.
