President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday bestowed the prestigious Bharat Ratna upon five distinguished luminaries, including notable figures such as BJP leader LK Advani, revered socialist icon and former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, esteemed former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, and renowned agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan.
Among the recipients, Charan Singh, Narasimha Rao, Karpoori Thakur, and Swaminathan were honored posthumously with the highest civilian award.
Representatives of the deceased recipients accepted the awards on their behalf at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Jayant Singh, grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh; PV Prabhakar Rao, son of PV Narasimha Rao; Ram Nath Thakur, son of Karpoori Thakur; and Nitya Rao, daughter of MS Swaminathan, received the prestigious accolades.
Dignitaries including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other esteemed personalities graced the ceremony with their presence.
This year, the government announced a total of five Bharat Ratna awards, among which one was bestowed upon Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart and former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani.
