Vishnu Deo Sai was today sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. Sai was sworn-in today in state capital Raipur in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other senior party leaders.
Also present at the swearing-in ceremony were Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
BJP leaders Vijay Sharma and Arun Sao were also sworn-in as Deputy Chief Ministers of the state during the ceremony.
Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal face of the BJP, was named as the new Chhattisgarh Chief Minister by the party, ending a week-long suspense. The BJP had registered a stunning victory over the Congress in last month's assembly polls.
A prominent tribal leader of BJP since 1990, Vishnu Deo Sai has held various positions with the party, including Chhattisgarh BJP chief. He was also a former union minister in the first tenure of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre.
The decision to appoint Vishnu Deo Sai as the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister came after BJP's strong performance in the tribal-dominated areas in the state. The party won 17 of the 29 constituencies reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs), which propelled it to come to power, dislodging the Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress government.
