Centre releases Rs 87.84 Cr to Sikkim as relief fund for natural calamities

GANGTOK: Northeast Indian state Sikkim will get Rs 87.84 crore as additional Central Assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for landslide during the South-West monsoons. This is about 5% of the total grant approved for 6 Indian States by the Centre.

In all, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has approved the release of nearly Rs 4,382 crore to six states as central assistance for the natural calamities they faced this year.

The funds will be released to West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Sikkim as assistance for the damage caused by cyclones, floods and landslides during the year.

It needs mention here that the central government has released the grant under the National Disaster Response Fund.

In all the six states, the central government had deputed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) immediately after the calamities without waiting for the receipt of the memorandum from the affected state.

During the financial year 2020-21, till date, the Central Government has released Rs 15,524.43 crore to 28 States from the SDRF.
