Guwahati, 16 January 2019:

An FIR was filed against Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Tuesday allegedly for passing derogatory remarks against women in meeting on December 5, 2018.

The FIR was lodged by the women’s wing of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Nari Shakti at the Sadar Police station in Gangtok.

The SKM and its members have alleged that the CM made derogatory remarks on the monthly menstrual cycle of women in a meeting last year.

Following the FIR, Nari Shakti workers and leaders requested the police to initiate legal action against the CM for passing derogatory remarks against women and for publicly insulting the modesty of women.

SKM Nari Morcha (East & North district) reiterated its demand of an apology from the Sikkim CM to the women community in the public for his remarks and threatened to continue with their protest until the apology.
