Stating that development cannot be at the cost of massive destruction and exploitation, the release adds: "It is heart-wrenching to see how the government is giving a blind eye to an issue so grave and concerning. Swelling rivers and lands to huge hydropower projects have done more harm than benefit to the people of Sikkim.
Sikkim on the whole is suffering because of such huge projects and is on the verge of collapse.
"When the whole world is working to mitigate climate crisis in today’s time, we Sikkimese who are true nature worshippers are becoming a mute spectator to this massive destruction process, stated Basnet.
