GANGTOK: Sikkim government has decided to reopen all the higher educational institutes and colleges from September 14, 2021, while both government and private schools will remain closed.
Sikkim reopened all schools and educational institutes on September 6 after a prolonged COVID-19 restriction and classes were held in the schools for students in standard 9 and above.
However, after some schools reported that at least five students tested positive for COVID, it was decided to reopen the educational institutions until October 31.
“The state government is very concerned that if the schools are not closed the chances of more cases of the infection are very high,” said state Education Secretary GP Upadhaya.
All primary contacts of the infected students were being traced and more cases could be reported, he said.
