Assam | Gold-Medallist Boxer Jamuna Boro Gifted with 1 Bigha Land

Guwahati, May 28, 2019:

Ace pugilist of Assam Jamuna Boro, who recently made the state proud by winning a gold medal in the 2nd India Open Boxing Tournament, was felicitated by BJP MLA of Dhekiajuli, Ashok Singhal on Monday.

Jamuna was felicitated at the Vidhayak Seva Kendra in Sonitpur district of Assam. She was also gifted with one bigha land for her remarkable and inspiring performance.

Ace boxer Jamuna Boro from Assam bagged the gold at the 54 kg category at the India Open Boxing Championship in Guwahati on Friday.

Jamuna Boro defeated Sandhyarani with a score of 5-0, thus qualifying for the World Championship.

It is to be mentioned that the Second India Open International Boxing Tournament was being held at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati recently.

Sixteen countries are participating in the tournament where nearly 200 boxers will are vying for the podium. The grand finale was held on May 24.

Jamuna Boro was born in Goreswar, Assam. Her family resides near Belsiri railway station. She has an elder brother named Bishukarma Boro, a sister and mother named Nirmali Boro who sells vegetables for livelihood.

Her father named Parsu Boro died when she was just ten years old. She attended Arya Vidyapeeth College in Guwahati where she completed her 12th grade and Bachelor of Arts from Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Dhekiajuli.

Jamuna is registered with the Boxing Federation of India and currently an employee of the Assam Rifles.
