The Assam volleyball senior men’s and women’s team has been declared after the conclusion of 56th Inter District Volleyball Competition which was started on 18th December and concluded on 20th December mid night at Boko in Lower Assam’s Kamrup District.
In the men’s section 15 teams from all over Assam took part and in the women’s section 7 teams. Total 14 players of each Men’s and Women’s team selected for the 68th Senior National Championship which will be held from 26th December in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
During the final match of the competition, Nazira played against Barpeta and won by 3-0. On the other hand in the women’s final, Golaghat team defeated Dhemaji by 3-2.
In the Inter District competition, Men’s best player selected as Vinit Kumar from Nazira team, who also the current player in the Indian Volleyball Team and Women’s best player selected as Kaberi Borah from Golaghat team and also selected as captain for Assam team.
The following Men’s volleyball players are selected to participate the 68th Senior National Volleyball Championship 2019-20 for Assam: as Rajar Tomar (captain), Sashank Kr. Kandpal, Vivek Ahlowat, Dhanmoni Das, Sourav Singh Tomar, Abdul Baten, Prasant Saroha, Vinit Kumar, Mohit Sahrowat, Vinod Negi, Mohit Rathi, T. Mohammad Riyazuddin and stand by players Juman Kalita and Arssisman Biswas. Women’s players are Bhaswati Gogoi, Sunita Roy, Kaberi Borah (Captain), Sangita Sarkar, Nitumoni Nath, J. Rajbongshi, Nikumoni Baruah, Debajani Bora, Purabi Kalita, Kalpana Kalita, Karabi Borah, Nikumoni Kuli and the stand by players are Rima Dutta and Anisha Bora.
Kamal Kumar Baishya, DC Kamrup rural District and Pankaj Chakrabarty, Assam state’s Joint Director of Sports and Youth Welfare took part as chief guest in the final matches and prize distribution ceremony. Pradip Hazarika, Working President of Assam Volleyball Association highly appreciates the organizing Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and the local public for their tremendous support.
He also told that the next Inter District Volleyball competition will be held in Dudhnai in Goalpara district after the kind request accepted by the Association from Tankeswar Rabha, Chief Executive Member of RHAC. Speaking about the Assam’s players participations in Indian team with Yejju Subba Rao, former Indian Volleyball player and team Manager of the ONGC, he told that lots of good players are in Assam and they playing well and now they have to prepare themselves for the next level to enter in the Indian team.
He also mentioned about Assam’s former volleyball player Abhijeet Bhattacharya that they played together in the many international tournaments.
