NEW DELHI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday decided to move remaining of the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches to the UAE in view of the COVID-19 situation in India.

The announcement was made by BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on Saturday.

"The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced to complete the remaining matches of VIVO Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) considering the monsoon season in India in the months of September-October this year," BCCI said in a release.

The unanimous decision to resume IPL was taken during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held virtually.

The remaining matches are expected to resume from September 18 and the final might be held on October 9 or 10 tentatively.

The BCCI SGM further authorized the Office Bearers to seek an extension of time from the ICC to take an appropriate call on the hosting of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

IPL was postponed earlier this month after several players and support staff across the teams tested positive for COVID-19.

A total of 29 matches were played out of the 56 scheduled ones before the postponement was announced.
