CBSE Board to Incorporate Sports into Syllabus: Kiren Rijiju

Guwahati, October 30, 2019:

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports (independent charge) Kiren Rijiju has announced that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been preparing a system to ensure that sports becomes a significant part of education in India.

Kiren Rijiju mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already announced the setting up a Board to disseminate Sports Education in the nation, along with making it a part of the education through the CBSE syllabus.

Sports will become a part of education under the new education policy of the Indian Government and this has been done as it is treated as an extra-curricular activity, he added.

Rijiju also mentioned that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are in touch with Human Resources Development Ministry in this regard.

Claiming that India will become a 'sporting powerhouse' in the future, Rijiju added that Modi government is treating sports as its "greatest priority ever".

The minister, who is also a sports enthusiast, said that one cannot create a champion overnight, so to go to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, preparation is needed, he said.
