Divya Kakran wins gold at Asian Wresting Championship 2020

Guwahati, February 20, 2020:

Indian woman wrestler Divya Kakran won the gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships and became the second Indian woman to do so on Thursday.

Kakran won all the four bouts in the 69 kg category.

Divya Kakran is just 22 years old. She is a freestyle wrestler.

Divya has won as many as 60 medals, including 17 gold medals in the Delhi State Championship, and has won the Bharat Kesari title eight times.

She has been vocal about being disappointed by the lack of support from the government of Delhi in her pursuit of a medal at the Asian Games in 2018, despite writing to the government about her poor financial background.

Apart from wrestling, she is employed as a senior ticket examiner at the Indian Railways.

The 2020 Asian Wrestling Championships was held at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium, Indira Gandhi Arena, New Delhi in India.
