Football star Bhaichung Bhutiya on Friday wrote to Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju to reconsider the decision to open Kanchenjunga for a mountaineering expedition
The Ministry of Home Affairs recently announced the opening of Kanchenjunga expedition through an official notification.

“Mt. Kanchenjunga which is located in Sikkim is a sacred peak for the people of Sikkim. It is also worshiped as our guardian deity and protector of the people of Sikkim,” writes Bhaichung in his letter.
He added, “Mt. Kanchenjunga and other peaks that are worship have been notified by the government of Sikkim as sacred mountains and thus stopped from all commercial climbs. Therefore, keeping this in mind, the sentiments of the Sikkimese people, I would request the Minister to kindly take up this issue with all concerned ministers and reconsider this notification.”
