Lovlina Borgohain Earns Ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Amman, March 9, 2020:

Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg) hailing from Assam has earned a ticket to the Toyko 2020 Olympics to be held later this year.

Altogether, Satish Kumar (+91kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) and Ashish Kumar (75kg),  joined seasoned Vikas Krishan (69kg) and Pooja Rani (75kg) in the qualifiers' list for the Tokyo Olympic on Sunday by advancing to the semifinals of the Asian Qualifiers with commanding victories.

"I managed to execute whatever I had planned. I wanted to fight from a distance and counter-attack, which I could do. Just qualifying is not enough, I want to now win a gold medal," a jubilant Borgohain, who hails from Assam, said after her bout.

Two-time world bronze-winner and second seed Borgohain eased past Uzbekistan's Maftunakhon Melieva to enter the semifinals and seal her place in the Olympics.

While Rani, Borgohain Ashish, and Satish secured their maiden Olympic spots, Krishan will be making his third successive appearance at the Games.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has congratulated Borgohain after her comprehensive victory. "Congratulations Lovlina Borgohai for securing qualification to Tokyo 2020. We are with you in this dream to achieve the greatest of sporting glory. My best wishes for the journey ahead", he wrote on Twitter.
