Magnificent Mary Kom has arrived in Assam's Guwahati city to participate in the second edition of the Indian Open boxing tournament which will be held from May 20-24 at the Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi AC Indoor Stadium at Sarusajai.
Addressing the Press here today, Mary Kom said that she is pleased that a tournament of international importance is being held in our very own Northeast after the first edition was a grand success.
Moreover, she has also said that she is confident of doing well in the new 51-kg category. "As far as I am concerned, I don't see any difference between the 48-kg and 51-kg categories", she said.
The six-time world champion Mary Kom, who had won a 48 kg gold in the last edition in 2018 also said that she would try her best to make India proud.
Moreover, Mary said that the young boxers of the country are also performing well and expressed enthusiasm regarding India's prospects in the upcoming Olympics.
Mary Kom, who reached Guwahati on Saturday, trained at the Sports Authority of India Centre ahead of the five-day tournament.
With a few months go for the World Championships, which is also an Olympic qualifier, the India Open will serve as the preparatory tournament for all the participants who hope to make their name at the Olympics.
