'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar Once Played for Pakistan

Guwahati, June 16, 2019:

People would be surprised to learn that 'master blaster' Sachin Tendulkar, who carried a billion dreams on his shoulders for more than two decades, once donned the green colors of the Pakistan cricket team, generally considered India's 'arch rivals' in the sport. Hard to believe, right?

On 20th January 1987, an exhibition cricket match was played between India and Pakistan at the Cricket Club of India's 50th-year celebration at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. It was a 40 over match where a 13-year-old Sachin Tendulkar played on Pakistan's side for almost 25 minutes.

Two years later, Sachin would go on to make his debut for the 'Men in Blue' and amass more runs than any other batsman and eventually be declared one of the greatest cricketers in the history of the game.

Later in his career, Tendulkar was a part of the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup, his first win in six World Cup appearances for India. He had previously been named "Player of the Tournament" at the 2003 edition of the tournament, held in South Africa. In 2013, he was the only Indian cricketer included in an all-time Test World XI named to mark the 150th anniversary of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack.
