Meghalaya enters final of Sub-Junior National Football C'ship with win over Bengal

Shillong, December 2, 2019:

The team from Meghalaya has reached the final of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship after defeating Bengal 3-1 in Kalyani in West Bengal, on Sunday.

Meghalaya found the back of the net through Samlang Rympei (16′, 90’+2) and Baniatyllilang Mawkhiew (64′) to win the first semifinal.

Although Meghalaya led 1-0 at half time, the hosts were able to equalize in the 52nd minute with a header.

Congratulating the team after the hard-earned win, the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote on Twitter, "So proud of our boys from Meghalaya who made it to the finals of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship after defeating Bengal yesterday. Congratulations and all the best to the team and its coaches!"

It may be mentioned here that the athletes from Meghalaya have been shining on the national stage in recent times. On November 15, the state’s cricket team today beat Mumbai in their home ground at ‘Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy’ held at Wankhede Stadium.

Reacting to this, the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, had written on Twitter, “It is a great moment of victory for our Meghalaya Cricket Team who beat Mumbai in their home ground at the ongoing ‘Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy’ held at Wankhede Stadium today. I am so proud of our boys who played excellently with such amazing teamwork. Big congratulations to the Team and its coaches for this amazing win. Wishing our homeboys more victories in the matches to come.”
