Guwahati, May 27, 2019:

The NorthEast United FC team has parted ways with star striker Bartholomew Ogbeche. The 34-year-old, who was instrumental in the club’s phenomenal run into the ISL 2018-19 semi-finals, was the team’s highest scorer in the tournament as he found the back of the net 12 times.

He was also the second top scorer in the league alongside Mumbai City FC’s Modou Sougou. NEUFC made the announcement via its official Twitter handle: “It’s always bitter sweet to move on! We wish our 35-year-old striker Bart all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, another IPL side Kerala Blasters are all set to close the deal to add the striker to its lineup.

Ogbeche, who originally hails from Nigeria, has also spent time at Dutch football giants PSV Eindhoven, which has won the Eredivisie 24 times.

The experienced marksman has also played for clubs in France Spain, England, Netherlands, Greece and UAE. He has featured for PSG in Ligue 1, Real Valladolid in La Liga and Middlesbrough in the Premier League before joining NEUFC before last season.

The Northeast United FC made the finals for the first time in the 2018-2019 season, but were eliminated by Bengaluru FC in the play-offs. But despite the disappointment of "so-near-yet-so-far", the boys from the Northeast had much to be positive about, as they were able to put up spirited fights throughout the tournament. They might have lost the match, but the NEUFC won the hearts of the entire nation through their doggedness and resolve in the latest season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bengaluru went on to clinch the title by defeating Goa by 1-0 in the final.
