London, June 10, 2019:

A blistering century from Shikhar Dhawan aided by a disciplined show by the Indian bowlers guided India to a 36-run victory over defending champions Australia in the World Cup match at The Oval on Sunday. This was Dhawan's third century in World Cup cricket. Apart from opener Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (82) and Rohit Sharma (57) were the other major contributors with the bat.

Chasing a mammoth total of 353, Australia were bowled out for 316 as India registered their second successive win in the tournament. For Australia, Steve Smith (69), David Warner (56) and Alex Carey (53) slammed half centuries, but couldn’t save their side from tasting the first defeat of the tournament.

Among the Indian bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah finished with 3/60 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended up with 3/50. Yuzvendra Chahal also dismissed two Australia batsmen.

Dhawan was adjudged the 'Man of the Match'. ""Best thing is that everybody is performing in the team," said Shikhar Dhawan, after the match was wrapped up.

With this result, India have won both their matches in the ongoing cricket World Cup 2019. Their next match is against New Zealand on 13 June.
