MUMBAI: Former Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina was arrested by the Mumbai police for violating COVID norms recently after a raid in Mumbai’s Dragonfly club near Mumbai airport. However, the sportsman was later released on bail.
According to sources, atleast 34 people were arrested in the raid for violating COVID norms. Senior officials informed that Singer Guru Randhawa and cricketer Suresh Raina were among those arrested and booked for for violating the norms.
Among arrested, seven from Mumbai Club were also taken into custody. They were arrested under section 188 of IPC, Bombay Police Act and Epidemic Disease Act. Sahar Police Station confirmed that Suresh Raina and Guru Randhawa were among those violating the rules as well. All arrested were later released, including Raina, on bail.

Mumbai Police issued an official statement which read, “offence has been registered u/s 188, 269, 34 IPC and u/s 51 NDMA against 34 persons at Sahar police station after raid was conducted at 2.50 AM at Dragonfly pub, for keeping establishment open beyond permissible time limit, not following Covid norms such as social distancing, not wearing face mask.”
Night curfew has been imposed in Maharashtra from tomorrow and a high alert has been raised for the next 15 days due to the new Coronavirus strain in the UK.
