NEW DELHI: All Assam Minorities Students Union (AAMSU) today staged a sit-in demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi against the inhuman treatment of the minorities in Assam along with various other grievances.
AAMSU held a two-hour sit-in demonstration in protest of the Assam government's selective, arbitrary, and inhumane evictions in various districts of the state.
Such evictions have rendered thousands of Indian citizens homeless forcing them to lead a beastly nomadic life in this pandemic situation.
Such actions of the state without proper rehabilitation of its citizens have infringed the basic human rights of its citizens and more specifically have jeopardised women and child rights.
The recent eviction in Garukhuti of Darrang district has shamed the entire mankind, said the party.
The party further stated that the barbarism of the district administration, the brutality of the police force, and the inhuman treatment of a murdered man's corpse have crossed all limits.
Such atrocities against Assam's minority communities under the guise of eviction should be stopped, and those affected must be rehabilitated as soon as possible by providing land and other basic necessities, said the party.
It also stated that the now stagnant NRC preparation process should be restarted soon so that the excluded 19 lakhs people from the final NRC can avail the opportunity to appeal against their exclusions as per rules.
It is a matter of concern that a large number of people has not yet been provided with Adhar card in Assam under one pretext or another thereby depriving them of various benefits.
Such people should be provided with Aadhaar cards without any conditions. In order to uplift the standard of education among the minority communities, we raised our demand to establish a university in the name of 16th-century saint and cultural icon Azan Pir, a Sainik School in the name of brave Ahom general Bagh Hazarika and to establish a campus of Aligarh Muslim University in Assam.
AASU also demanded that the growing hate campaign against the minority communities in Assam and various parts of India should be stopped.
It said that the government should ensure the safety and security of lives and properties of minorities in Assam and other parts of India and that the government should take strict action against those hate mongers and criminals who attacked the minorities of Tripura recently and the perpetrators of this heinous crime should not be spared.
"The government should also ensure the protection of lives, properties, and places of worship of the minority communities living in Bangladesh through diplomatic channels," AAMSU added.
