Assam: 28 COVID-19 cases in quick succession, state tally climbs to 378

With 20 fresh cases reported in Assam, the state tally has gone up to 378 on May 24, 2020. Of the 20 cases, 6 are from Nalbari, 5 are from Kamrup, 4 from Hojai, 2 from Kamrup Metro, 2 from Nagaon, and 1 from Morigaon.

Taking stock of the matter Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted:

The cases comes within hours after 8 new cases were announced by the Health Minister.

On 24th May, Assam registered 32 cases so far.

With these cases, Assam registered a total of 87 cases on May 23, 2020, alone.

On May 22, 2020, the state witnessed a massive spike in positive coronavirus cases with 49 new cases reported. On yesterday evening, 26 people quarantined at Sarusajai Quarantine Centre were tested positive for the virus.

Assam has reported 23 cases on May 21, 2020 taking the total over 200. The state has registered its second 100 cases in just four days while there were just 100 cases on May 17, 2020. Most of the cases have a travel history.

The novel coronavirus has infected a total of 1.32 lakh people and claimed over 3,867 lives as on May 24, 2020, morning, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There are 73,560 active cases with 54,440 cases discharged and cured.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross a thousand deaths. It has recorded 47,190 corona cases with 13,404 cured and 1,577 deaths. The western state is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Gujarat has corona 13,664 cases with 6,169 cured and 829 deaths. Tamil Nadu has crossed 15,512 cases with 7491 cured and 103 deaths. The National Capital with 12,910 COVID-19 cases has crossed the 10 thousand mark on May ^24th, 2020. So far, 6267 have been cured in Delhi with 231 deaths.

India has surpassed China’s official figure of 82,933 confirmed coronavirus cases. India is the 11^th most cases in the world. So far, the USA has the highest number of covid19 cases at 1,666,828.
