GUWAHATI: Cabinet ministers from both the Assam and Mizoram governments met today in Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, to discuss resolving the ongoing border dispute.

From the Assam government, two cabinet ministers–Atul Bora and  Ashok Singhal attended the meeting.

Both states have welcomed and agreed to carry forward the initiatives launched by the Ministry of Horne Affairs, the Government of India, and the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram to alleviate tensions along inter-State borders and find long-term solutions to disputes through dialogue.

Representatives of both governments have agreed to take all necessary measures to promote, preserve and maintain peace and harmony amongst the people living in both states particularly in the border areas.

Mizoram also conveyed condolences for those who lost their lives on July 26, 2021, during the border clash and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.

Both states welcome the deployment of neutral forces--Forest and Police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement along the inter-state border where confrontation and conflict has taken place between the Police forces of the states.

This would include all such areas along the Assam — Mizoram border in the districts of Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar, Assam; Mamit, and Kolasib districts, Mizoram.
