The militants hiding in the thick jungles ambushed their vehicle killing a Assam rifles jawan besides injuring another. However, the militants soon escaped after the ambush. Identity of the militant organization is yet to be ascertained. No militant organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a manhunt to nab the militants.

The proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland NSCN (K) are active in this district.

The union home ministry has recently declared three districts of Arunachal Pradesh as "disturbed area" and extended Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) by six months.
