AGARTALA: The BJP-IPFT's ruling alliance has received a major jolt today as Brisha Ketu Debbarma, a sitting MLA of the latter, has announced his decision to formally join Pradyot Manikya Debbarma's TIPRA at Hezamara village in West Tripura district with a number of his close aides.

Brishaketu Debbarma resigned on Tuesday citing personal reasons. Debbarma, who is part of the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), represented the Simna Assembly constituency in West Tripura district.

TIPRA Chief Pradyot Manikya has said that the MLA's joining will bolster the party as it will now have a voice in the Assembly.

"We are now going to have a voice in the Assembly at some point before the 2023 poll. We are uniting to raise the Greater Tipraland demand not only in the (tribal) Council but also in Agartala and eventually in Delhi" Manikya told InsideNE over the phone.

The lawyer-turned-legislator has tendered his resignation to Assembly Speaker Rebati Mohan Das.
