SILIGURI: The Gorkha leader Bimal Gurung today arrived in Siliguri to deliver a rousing speech in front of his supporters and issue a warning to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the elections in West Bengal. Expressing his trust on the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, regarding the fulfillment of the Gorkhaland demand, Gurung said the the BJP couldn’t live up to the expectations of the people of the Darjeeling hills.
Bimal Gurung, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader on the run since 2017, resurfaced in Calcutta on Wednesday after three years and pledged his support to Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Mamata Banerjee.
Earlier during the day, members of Joy Bangla protested at Venus More over Gurung’s return. They raised slogans while burning his effigies.
Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Bimal Gurung today arrived at the Gandhi Stadium in Siliguri after three years. Gurung got a huge welcome from a massive crowd of supporters gathered at Gandhi Maidan, Siliguri in his first return to region after 3 years. He said that he will be holding a series of public rallies starting with one in Darjeeling next week.
"We will answer Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the next General Elections," he said, adding, "For 12 years, the BJP has discriminated us and now, the time has come to show them."

Guring also said that the sitting Darjeeling MP, Raju Bista of the BJP, has failed in regards to fulfilling the demand for a separate state Gorkhaland, and said that he must now resign from his post. "We have support to win Raju Bista in MP for Gorkhaland and now Raju Bista have to resign from MP Seat," he told his supporters.
