ITANAGAR: Robin Hibu, the special commissioner of Delhi Police, is among the very few in the country who worked throughout the year 2020 without taking a single day off or leave when COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the nation.

When a large majority of the country’s population kept themselves confined to their homes, Hibu was one who hardly had any time to spend at home. The first IAS officer from Arunachal Pradesh, who had earlier served as an inspector general of police at Rastrapati Bhawan, has been an additional director general in Delhi Police dedicated to deal with issues of the Northeasterners in the national capital.

“The reason why I did not take any leave during the whole year was that I am heading five departments in Delhi. There are a lot of problems from the Northeast who are reaching out to me day in and day out,” the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories cadre officer is heard saying in a viral audio clip.

“Then this pandemic has compounded the woes for me by creating so many problems for our north eastern people. There were no ration, no healthcare, no one to look to,” the founder president of Helping Hands, a charitable organisation catering to the needs of the north eastern people living outside their state, added.

“So due to all these things my morale did not allow me to take leave when our people were suffering and when there was so much responsibilities placed on our shoulders,” he added.

“So I feel good and relieved and I thank God that at least without any problem I could work throughout the year in 2020. This is my little service I can do for my country, for my fellow citizens and for our needy people from the Northeast,” he sums up in the clip.

Not only was Hibu busy with official tasks all through the year. He was also seen distributing relief materials among stranded people from the Northeast in Delhi during the nationwide lockdown last year or facilitating their return home during unlock period.
