GUWAHATI: The Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM), a political platform launched recently by a section of intellectuals and seasoned journalists, will hold a political convention here on Monday to discuss the prevailing political and socio-economic situation in the state.
The convention, aimed at arriving at a political consensus on a dethroning the BJP and its allies in Assam, will be participated by some of the leading intellectuals and seasoned politicians of the state, said a statement issued by AGM chief convenor and Rajya Sabha member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan.
Noted intellectual Hiren Gohain will inaugurate the convention at New Brindaban Garden premises here. Prominent among those who are likely to participate in the conclave include litterateur Hare Krishna Deka, Arupa Patangia Kalita, Lakshminath Tamuly and veteran Left leader Hemen Das, the statement said.

Besides, a host of political leaders, academicians, artistes and others are likely to attend the convention. The issues to be discussed include the imposition of various contentious laws and rules, including the Citizenship Amendment Act, on the people of Assam, the economic slowdown, the anarchic regime under the BJP, communal polarisation of the Assamese society, environmental degradation and others.
