AGARTALA: Pradyot Manikya, the scion of the erstwhile Manikya dynasty and president of the new regional political power TIPRA, today asserted that the party shall continue its push for a separate Greater Tipraland state for the indigenous tribals.

"My job is to remain committed to our goal of Greater Tipraland ! People voted us for our commitment and not posts and position . The mistakes of our leaders in the past was to be satisfied after winning , mine is greater tipraland and tiprasa thansa and regional unity," Manikya proclaimed on Facebook moments earlier.

Debbarma will take oath as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on April 20 next after his party scripted history by securing 18 out of the 28 Seats on offer.

Manikya -- throughout his election campaign -- adopted the demand for a separate state Tipraland as his party's core demand.

Even after scripting the unlikely win, the royal scion has continued to be extremely vocal about the demand, stating that the party will not buckle under any sort of pressure and will continue to push for it.

After resigning from the post of president of the state Congress in 2019, the royal scion has floated a new apolitical organisation – The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) – for the welfare of the indigenous of the state.

On February 5, Pradyot had announced that his organisation would be a political party and will contest in the district council polls, demanding a ‘Greater Tipraland’.

‘Greater Tipraland’ is essentially an extension of the ruling tribal partner Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura – IPFT’s demand of Tipraland, which sought a separate state for tribals of Tripura.

The new demand seeks to include every tribal person living in indigenous area or village outside the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) under the proposed model.

More specifically, it seeks to cater to the aspirations of Tripuris in Mamit of Mizoram, Kachar and Hailakandi in Assam, and even in Khagrachari, Bandarban, and Chittagong of Bangladesh.
