AGARTALA: Section 144 IPC has been clamped in several parts of Tripura as violence swept the state a day after Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma-led Tipraha Indigenous Peoples Regional Alliance (TIPRA) swept the recent Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections with an absolute majority.
Restrictions under Section 144 have been imposed in several parts of the state, such as Khowai, West Tripura, Sepahijala, Gomati and South Tripura.

Reports of violence came on the counting day itself, right after TIPRA assured their victory in the polls.
TIPRA party workers and supporters reportedly vandalized other party offices as retaliation towards the attack on their chief Pradyot Manikya on Friday, a day before the counting took place.
TIPRA chief Pradyot Manikya himself appealed to his party workers on Saturday via Facebook live not to get indulge in any sort of violent acts.
“If Tiprasa will attack Tiprasa, others will laugh at us. There should be a difference between Bubagra’s party and the other parties,” said Debbarma through his Facebook live.
But even after Pradyot Manikya's appeal, violence continued to be out of control and the administration had to impose Section 144 to control the situation.
Pradyot Manikya's party TIPRA and its ally INPT recorded a historic win by sweeping 18 out of 28 seats in the TTAADC election.
