AGARTALA: The railway ministry has decided to run Kisan Rail from Agartala to Howrah from June 11 to supply fruits and vegetables to other parts of the country as stated in a report.
The fruits and vegetables to be transported include jackfruit, pineapple, lemon etc, the report added.
The railway ministry accepted the proposal of the state to support the tillers who produced fruits and vegetables in commercial scale and expecting to export them abroad.

Tripura had produced the best quality of pineapple and lemon within the first two years under the BJP-IPFT government. A large quantity of the production was sent to Middle East and UK.
It is for the first time Tripura has exported sweet jackfruits to the United state.
The consignment of jackfruits was transported to UK through a Guwahati-based export company named ‘Kiega Exims Pvt. Ltd. from Krishi Sanyoga Agro Producer company limited, Agartala under MIDH scheme.
The exports boosted the cultivation for lemon and pineapple and the cultivation areabwas increased from over 2000 hectare to 2300 hectare.
