AGARTALA: The Tripura government has imposed a curfew in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas for the next 14 days due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

The curfew will start at 5 am on May 17.

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar will release a comprehensive guideline in this regard, along with Standard Operating Protocols (SOP) and service exemptions.

According to reports, the virus's spread has become a source of concern with more than 70% of cases recorded in the West Tripura district in the last 15 days.

In the last two days, the district which encompasses a significant portion of AMC has registered 502 cases out of a total of 1,001 positive cases which is troubling.

Tripura in the past 24 hours recorded 449 positive cases and three persons expired due to the infection during the period, bringing the COVID death toll to 426. The active case stands at 4265.
