Agartala, 20 October, 2019:

“If to take action against corrupt people is political revenge then I will do it hundred times”, said Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, finally breaking his silence in regards to the manhunt for 'wanted' ex-Minister Badal Choudhury.

Addressing a gathering at the Gandhi Sankalpa Yatra at Bishalgarh, Deb said the Government will take strict action against those who have "looted" the people's money and send them to jail. "No one can save them from punishment", he added.

"I am not here to tolerate corrupt people who have looted poor people's money. The culprits of chit fund scam and corrupt officials and corrupt contractors will soon be behind bars", he assured.

However, in his speech, Biplab Kumar Deb did not mention the name of former PWD minister Badal Choudhury for single time.

He also criticized the Congress party and its leaders without mentioning their names. Biplab Deb said, the PWD scam happened in the 2008. He asked then where the opposition and opposition leaders were?

Meanwhile, the CPM leaders alleged that BJP led state government is doing this only to take "political revenge" and it is a conspiracy against the veteran CPM leader.

It may be mentioned that on 13 October night, the vigilance department lodged an FIR against former minister Badal Choudhury, former chief engineer of PWD Sunil Bhowmik and former principal secretary of PWD Yash Pal Singh. The case was registered on an alleged 600 crore PWD scam.

Sunil Bhowmik was arrested, but police did not nab Badal Chudhury after several raids in different places across the state. Badal Choudhury got interim bail from the court on Monday.

The Tripura State administration has suspended 9 police personnel including one SP, one DSP, one Inspector, One Sub-inspector and five constables for their inability to arrest the MLA. Many more officials have also been removed from their posts.
