Guwahati, December 28, 2018:

The opposition, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Thursady withdrew their candidates from four civic bodies along with Agartala Municipal Corporation.

On the other hand, the Congress party demanded re-polls for the seats of five civic bodies.

Reportedly, CPI-M state secretary Goutam Das alleged that supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with support of police and civil administration carried out large scale violation and intimidation in the polls. He alleged that the polling agents of CPI-M were forcefully removed from all polling stations but could not manage to do so in Panisagar, Kailasahar and Kumarghat.

He further alleged that the BJP workers also forced the opposition candidates to withdraw their nomination papers and the sitting MLA from Bishalgarh constituency, Bhanulal Saha was manhandled by miscreants from the rulling BJP and some of their candidates along with general supporters of the party also sustained injuries during attacks by ruling supporters.
