Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura and BJP candidate from Charilam seat took oath as member of the state Assembly today. Protem Speaker Ratan Chakraborty administered the oath to him.
I congratulate the voters of my constituency for casting such a huge number of votes in favour of me. I also congratulate the people of my state for forming the BJP-Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura government, he told reporters. Good governance, rule of law and implementation of flagship programmes of the central government would be our objective, he added.
Dev Varma had won with a record margin of 25,550 votes, superseding all past records of victory margin in the states assembly election. Election in Charilam was countermanded following the death of CPI-M candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma a week before February 18 election in the state. Polling in the seat was held on March 12 and results were announced yesterday.
