Journalists will be vaccinated against COVID on "priority basis", says Tripura CM

Agartala: Acknowledging journalists' role in the fight against the novel coronavirus, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has assured that the journalists in the State will get the COVID-19 vaccine on a "priority basis."

Pranab Sarkar, Secretary of Agartala Press Club has declared that Chief Minister Biplab Deb has assured that journalists will be given COVID-19 vaccines on a priority basis.

Deb's assurance came after the journalists' fraternity in the State that media persons along with their family members be given COVID-19 vaccine on a priority basis.

It needs mention for Tripura, containing 56,500 doses, is likely to arrive in Agartala on Wednesday.

Along with rest of the country, the first phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive in Tripura will start on January 16.

Siddhartha Jaiswal, Director of National Health Mission (NHM), informed that vaccines will be administered at 15 locations across the State on January 16.

One location in Khowai district and two locations each in the remaining seven districts have been finalised, where COVID-19 vaccines will be administered.

In the first phase of vaccination drive, 45,000 health workers will be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Yesterday, a Spicejet freighter ferried over 730 Kg of cargo in 20 boxes having vaccine doses to be distributed for Assam and Meghalaya. The cargo boxes were received by the AAI cargo wing (Airports Authority of India Cargo Logistic and Allied Services Company Ltd.) AAICLAS, at the domestic cargo complex, Guwahati Airport.

A total of 20 boxes having vaccine close to 2,40,000 doses was delivered at Guwahati Airport out of which 17 are for the state of Assam and 06 for Meghalaya; reads a Press Release by the Airport Authorities. Each box has 12,000 dose of vaccine.
