Pradyot Manikya Says Brus are 'Indigenous' to Tripura, Demands Govt to Resettle Refugees

Former president of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Pradyot Deb Manikya has reached out to the state government to consider settling the displaced Bru people in Tripura.

The royal scion took to his Facebook handle on Tuesday and posted a video where he mentioned that the Bru (Reang) refugees are the indigenous tribes of Tripura.

He mentioned, “The Queens of the King of Tripura were from Bru community. These refugees got displaced during the Dumbur project during 1970 by Indian Government and Tripura government.”

In a tweet, Pradyot Deb Manikya said, “They (Bru Refugees) are our own people who were displaced during the Dumbur project! They are more Indians than millions who are illegally coming from Bangladesh.”

In another tweet, he added, “The Govt can consider giving 2,700 acres of land for BSF Firing Range then why not land for our displaced people?”

Through his tweeter handle, he mentioned sending 1500 kilos of Rice, Dal - other food items as an emergency. He added that more food items will be reaching today.
