The Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended by the villagers and subsequently handed over to the BSF. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the men are members of the Intelligence Branch of 11 Rapid Action Battalion, Bangladesh.

They were tasked by Mohidul Islam, Additional SP and Coy Cdr to carry out a covert operation to apprehend an Indian drug smuggler named Abu Khair and a Bangladeshi drug smuggler, Mashooq Mia. The two dealers were allegedly staying at Rahimpur during the time of the operation.

On October 10, the RAB team left Comilla for Rahimpur village for the intended operation and picked up two ladies en route as their informers. They reached Sasidal Railway station near the border in a Government vehicle and thereafter, hired an auto rickshaw to reach the International Boundary.

At about 0730 hours, RAB personnel entered the house of an Indian national Abu Khair with the intention to arrest him. On reaching the house, RAB personnel allegedly assaulted the wife and daughter of Khair Mia. In the meantime, hearing cries, civilians assembled and overpowered the Bangladeshis. They were subsequently beaten up by the villagers. Taking advantage of this situation, the Bangladeshi drug smuggler Mashooq Mia ran away from Rahimpur village. The villagers later handed them over to the BSF.

BSF recovered one pistol, 7 round bullets, two hand cuffs, two RAB identity cards, two Bangladeshi identity cards, seven mobile phones and 1,50,000 Bangladeshi taka from the team from Bangladesh.

BSF informed that, during a meeting, the 3 RAB personnel and 2 female informants, along with all recovered items were handed over to BGB as a goodwill gesture in view of the Co-ordinated Border Management Plan between the two nations.
