Agartala, April 19, 2019:

Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Pradyot Kishore Deb Burman has landed in controversy after slapping a man inside the Khowai police station in Tripura's Khowai district. He was booked late on Thursday night after the footage of the Congress President slapping the man went viral.

Footage of the royal scion slapping the youth, Mintu Debbarma, has gone viral. In CCTV video footage of the incident, Pradyot can be seen entering the police station flanked by his supporters. The accused tries to fold hands and seek his forgiveness, but Pradyot proceeds to slap him.

Mintu Debbarma had earlier been booked for throwing bricks at a convoy carrying the Congress candidate from Tripura East Lok Sabha Constituency Pragya Deb Burman, Pradyot's elder sister.

Yesterday, Pragya's convoy was attacked by three men at Khowai (roughly 70 kms from capital Agartala) who have been presumed to be Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) supporters. Although two of the attackers managed to flee the spot, Mintu was nabbed by Tripura Police.

The BJP, meanwhile, has accused Pradyot of taking the law into his own hands and termed him "dangerous", after the CCTV footage of him purportedly slapping Mintu Debb Burma went viral on social media.

It may be mentioned that the polling in the Tripura East Constituency was deferred till 23 April because of security concerns.
