Tripura: CPM MLA attacked by bike-borne miscreants, BJP blamed

AGARTALA: Tripura's former Minister and CPM MLA Ratan Bhowmik was on Tuesday attacked by a group of miscreants while he was visiting an ailing party worker at the Shilghati ADC village under his own constituency.

As soon as the MLA entered the residence of the party workers, a group of miscreantS violently attack him, the CPM said.

The vehicle that was parked in front of the party worker’s residence was also damaged and keys were snatched.

The miscreants, who were bike-borne, then broke into anti-CPM chants. The bike riders also asked the MLA to "go back."

According to reports, the locals of the area came out sensed trouble and rescued Ratan Bhowmik from being physically harmed.

The nearby Kakraban police station was also informed and the arrival of the police restored peace in the area. The local people escorted the MLA until he reached the safe zone.

Condemning the attack, Bhowmick said, “Such attacks can’t detach people from CPM and people will continue to support towards the Left”.

After fingers were pointed at the saffron party, the saffron party's Gomati district secretary Abhisek Deb Roy denied any BJP's links with the incident and attributed the incident to the party’s (CPM) "internal resentment."
