Clarifying the controversy over discarding May Day from the holiday list of Tripura in 2019, the state government notification has made it clear that May 1 will be holiday in those organizations governed under Factories and Broilers Act 1948 but not in the government offices.
The opposition CPI (M) had become angry after getting the holiday list of the government, as it dropped May 1 from the paid holiday list and shifted it to restricted holiday. The party termed it as a step of ‘anti-working class’.
However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rubbished the allegation stating it as a futile attempt to mislead the fundamental concept of 1st May celebration.
The state government for the first time has included Garia Puja, an important festival of the indigenous people of the state in the holiday list.
