Justice Ajay Rastogi, a senior judge of the Rajasthan high court, has been transferred to high court of Tripura to fill up the shortage of judges, as only two judges are functioning in the posts of four for about one and half-years. After retirement of Justice U B Saha in August 2016 and Justice S C Das in March 2017, the Chief Justice of the high court wrote to Supreme Court seeking advice for alternative arrangement of judges to the run the court.

Due to shortage of judges, the pendency of cases in high court of Tripura has increased manifold.

Moreover, the chief justice of high court T Vaiphei is retiring from service in February this year which will further intensify the crisis of justice dispensation. However, even after the transfer of Justice Rastogi in Tripura high court the crisis would not meet up unless two others are appointed soon.
