Tripura police face mass resistance during anti-cannabis operation

A huge contingent of police went to recover smuggling-ready cannabis from an interior area of Melagarh sun-division, Tripura late on Thursday night faced vehement confrontation from the locals prompting the police team resort to blank firing, police said.

“One of our driver who was driving our rented vehicle sustained injuries after some of the brickbats hit on his body that stormed inside the window glass. After finding no other way out to disperse the mob, our team fired in open to disperse them. After the miscreants fled, the police team returned back to police headquarters with the seized materials”, said Chakraborty.

On being asked specifically on any arrests, he informed this newspaper that no one had been arrested yet in this regard but the investigation was underway.
