Tripura registers four more COVID-19 cases, state count climbs to 173

Tripura registered four more COVID-19 confirmed cases on Tuesday taking the count to 173. The infected patients are returnee from Chennai.

The patients had arrived in the state by a Shramik Special train on May 18, 2020.

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said a total of 850 samples were collected for the COVID-19 test; of which these four have been tested positive.

Informing this, the CM tweeted:

He further informed that all the patients have been sent to quarantine centre for treatment.

With these new cases, the virus has infected a total of 173 people in the state; of which 116 have been cured/ discharged, according to the Health Ministry. The state has not registered any causality so far.

The Dhalai district in Tripura has registered highest confirmed COVID-19 cases. A total of 162 people have been infected so far in the district followed by North Tripura district (4), Gomati district (2) and Khowai district (1).

Measures taken to fight COVID-19

The Tripura government has decided to convert the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) exhibition centre to a 1,000 bedded COVID-19 facility centre.

Taking to the microblogging site – Twitter, the Chief Minister said, “In addition to our collective efforts for strengthening healthcare services to fight the COVID19 pandemic, we have decided to set up one 1000-bedded centre at TIDC Exhibition Centre, Hapania.

Besides, one PHC has also been identified in Unakoti district for a 20-bedded COVID-19 centre, Deb wrote.

This is in addition to 520 bed dedicated COVID-19 Hospital, COVID-19 health centre and a COVID-19 care centre set up in Agartala and five other districts of the state.

Tripura has identified 90-bed capacity COVID-19 care centers in five districts of the state including Gomati, South district, Dhalai, Khowai, and North Tripura.

National tally

The novel coronavirus has infected total of 1,06,750 people and claimed 3,303 lives across the country so far. Of 1,06,750, 42298 have been cured or discharged, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

A total of 37,136 people have been infected in Maharashtra while 1,325 have died due to coronavirus in Maharashtra. Maharashtra is followed by Tamil Nadu (12,488 confirmed cases and 84 deaths) and Gujarat (12,140 confirmed cases and 719 deaths) so far.

Meanwhle in Assam, the virus has infected 157 and claimed four lives, state Health Minster Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on May 19 night. The staet has witnessed a massive spike in the positive cases from last five days.
