The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Monday held a massive rally protesting the Tripura Police’s biased role and demanded the restoration of law and order, democracy, and the safeguarding of the Constitution.
The rally was led by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha, MLAs Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Chandra Roy, former Congress President Pijush Kanti Biswas, and others.
The party also staged a demonstration in front of the Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday.
Speaking with reporters, Tripura Congress President Saha said that the Congress in Agartala is holding this rally to protest against the lawlessness in the state, violence against women, and attacks on opposition party workers.
"They (BJP) have also turned the elections into a farce. The Tripura Police and the ruling party are working hand in glove. We are holding this protest to demand the restoration of law and order, democracy, and to safeguard the Constitution," he said.

Later, a delegation met DGP Amitabh Ranjan and submitted a memorandum demanding the restoration of law and order in the state.
"From the PCC, a delegation today met the Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan. We told him that there is lawlessness across the entire state, with attacks being launched on women. Even during the last Panchayat election, people were not allowed to cast their votes. The opposition parties were unable to contest in the elections. BJP-backed goons launched unprovoked attacks on opposition party workers and the public. This is an autocratic government. The local people have lost their faith and trust in this government and even in the Tripura Police. We have alerted the DGP about these issues, and earlier, we also asked him to take all necessary steps to conduct free and fair elections. But they have failed," said Saha.
The Congress leader added that during the meeting, they reminded the DGP of his failure to keep his promises, with daily incidents of gang rape, murder, and theft increasing.
He further stated, "The police are showing murders as unnatural deaths to provide safeguards for BJP-backed goons. If the police fail to fulfil their duties, we will hold state-wide protests."
