The Tripura Police have ramped up security with the deployment of over 10,000 personnel across the state ahead of the 72nd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC), scheduled to take place in Agartala from December 20 to 21.
The event will witness the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and other key dignitaries, including the chief ministers, chief secretaries, and Governors of the northeastern states.
Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan, along with senior officials, conducted an inspection of the venues and reviewed security preparations on Thursday. Speaking to reporters, DGP Ranjan highlighted the comprehensive security measures in place.
"An elaborate security arrangement has been made, starting from the India-Bangladesh border to city areas. This includes naka patrolling, preventive actions, and tight security at all venues where programs will be held and dignitaries will stay. Over 5,000 personnel have been deployed in and around Agartala city alone, with forces from BSF, CRPF, Assam Rifles, and TSR also involved," he stated.
The police have also heightened vigilance at all border outposts and police stations, ensuring thorough preparedness for the high-profile event. A trial run of the security arrangements is underway to ensure a seamless execution during the session.
