Tripura: Violent clash breaks out between BJP-TIPRA Motha workers, several injured

A violent clash between BJP and TIPRA Motha supporters erupted at Jampuijala under the West District of Tripura following a meeting of BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya on Monday afternoon, leaving many injuries.

The incident unfolded at the Bukhrui Community Hall, where State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharya was in attendance.

Sources said that shortly after the BJP’s meeting concluded, clashes erupted between BJP and Tipra Motha activist supporters, escalating within minutes. 

Witnesses reported a surge of heated altercations, leading to injuries on both sides.

“As the BJP workers departed for their homes following a grievance meeting, they were pursued by Tipra Motha activist supporters, resulting in a retaliatory response from the BJP camp. In the ensuing scuffle, numerous individuals sustained injuries, while several bikes and scooters fell victim to vandalism” said a source.

Multiple individuals, including the Officer-in-Charge of the Takarjala police station and a police constable, were among those injured. They were rushed to Takarjala Hospital for treatment. 

In response to the escalating violence, a huge number of police and TSR personnel were deployed to maintain the law and order.

Reacting on the matter, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya said that despite the attackers' efforts, BJP workers managed to hold their ground and attended the meeting. 

He further emphasized the unwavering strength of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the face of opposition.

“Our Karyakartas were prevented in different places and tried to attack them by a section of unruly youths when they were en route to attend the meeting. When they have started attack while returning back to home, our Karyakartas also protested”, he said.

While, Tipra Motha MLA Biswajit Kalai swiftly arrived at the spot, condemning the incident as a premeditated ploy by the BJP. He alleged that the police force was aligned with the BJP's interests, accusing them of unjustly detaining Tipra Motha party workers.
